RF-Japan consultations on Far East ecosystems begin Tue.

VLADIVOSTOK, April 6 (Itar-Tass) - Russo-Japanese two-day
consultations on the preservation of ecosystems in the Far East began here
on Tuesday.
Government officials and specialists in the field of ecosystems intend
to discuss a wide range of problems concerning oceanology, the protection
of marine animals, ichthyology, and the compilation of a common database
on the biological diversity of species, an official at Japan's
Consulate-General in Vladivostok has told Itar-Tass.
In May last year, during Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit
to Japan, the two governments had signed a Programme for Cooperation in
the conservation and sustainable uses of ecosystems in the contiguous
areas of Japan and Russia, including those in the Sea of Okhotsk.
Participants in the current consultations are to map out concrete
measures for cooperation under the Programme.
