MONGOLIA JOINS WORLD HEALTH DAY CAMPAIGN


Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Mongolia joins the global movement to make cities healthier. Four cities--Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan, Erdenet and Mandalgobi--are joining the 1,000 cities, 1,000 lives campaign for World Health Day 2010.
In Ulaanbaatar, events will run such as open street health promotion activity; stop engines; public events of culture and sport competitions; promotion and advertising through press, materials about health such as flyers and brochures for the public--all through 1-11 April among nine districts of Ulaanbaatar.
Darkhan city will join the the global movement under the motto "Healthy urban city is our mission". Activities such as stop engine activity at the main street of Darkhan, walking, physical exercises and sport activities for the community, youth and elderly will run. In addition, shops, supermarkets and bars will not serve alcohol April 7.
Erdenet city raised a slogan "Working together toward a healthy and clean city". During the event, traffic will be stopped on the main street and open street activities such as promotion of walking, physical, activity and cleaner environment will be carried out for the public. No alcohol will be offered during the celebration.
Mandalgobi city, the centre of Dundgobi province, will run stop engine activity, open street health promotion activities for the public (walking physical activity et). Bars, shops and supermarkets will not sell alcohol April 7.
The 1,000 cities, 1,000 lives campaign for World Health Day 2010 calls upon all cities worldwide to open up portions of streets to the people to promote health activities for one day during the week of 7-11 April 2010.
