Kyrgyz police deny protesters' seizing govt bodies in Talas.
BISHKEK, April 6 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry has
denied the reports that protesters seized the building of administration in the regional center of Talas.
"The reports by some media outlets alleging that the building of the
regional administration has been seized do not correspond to reality,"
police spokesman Rakhmatulla Akhmedov told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
Akhmedov acknowledged that several dozen people "among whom there were
many persons in a state of alcoholic intoxication entered the building of
the regional administration in Talas" earlier in the day, and left it
shortly thereafter.
"At present, government bodies are implementing a public awareness
action, in order to prevent incidents," the spokesman said, adding that
"all the necessary measures to ensure law and order and public security in
the region have been taken."
On Tuesday, several media outlets and Opposition politicians claimed
some 1,000 residents in Talas had seized the building of regional
administration.
They alleged that police had not offered any effective resistance to
the protesters and that the regional governor "disappeared in the unknown
direction."
The local media reported that the people who had seized the building
appointed Koisun Kurmanaliyeva acting governor.
Some reports suggested that the opposition leaders planned "curultais"
(assemblies) in various parts of the republic on April 7, at which they
wanted to express their no confidence in the country's' leadership.
The Talas unrest reportedly followed the detention by police of
opposition leader, deputy head of the Ata-Meken party Bolot Sherniyazov,
but law-enforcement bodies said they had briefly detained Sherniyazov to
warn him about the inadmissibility of unsanctioned protest actions.
Other reports said some 1,500 people in Talas were marching to the
building of regional police in order to free the opposition supporters
kept there.
