Kyrgyz PM to make statement on unrest in Talas Region.

BISHKEK, April 6 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyz Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov will make a statement in the near future on disturbances in the Talas Region in the republic, Itar-Tass learnt on Tuesday at the press service of the Kyrgyz cabinet head.

According to the press service, republican Prosecutor-General Nurlan
Tursunkulov will come for a meeting with reporters along with the premier.
According to some Kyrgyz mass media and opposition leaders, between
1,000 and 1,500 people captured the building of the regional
administration on Tuesday in the city of Talas, the regional centre of the
republic, in protest against detention by police of one of opposition
leaders, Bolot Sherniyazov, and proclaimed "people's power" in the region.
Rally participants also elected "a popular governor". Protesters
intended to penetrate into the building of the regional police department,
but were forced to retreat after police officers used tear gas. Opposition
leaders claimed that additional police reinforcements are dispatched to
the Talas Region from other districts to quash the protest action.
At the same time, according to a version of the republican Interior
Ministry, there was no capture of the building of the regional
administration. The ministry's press service noted that indeed, several
people, "many of whom were drunk" "entered the administration building and
went away". The Interior Ministry also assures that the situation in the
Talas Region is fully under control of state bodies of power.
