CHIKUNGUNYA INFECTS 4,200 CILACAP RESIDENTS



Cilacap, April 8 (ANTARA) - Some 4,200 residents of Cilacap District, Central Java, have been infected with chikungunya since early 2010.

"The number of chikungunya cases during the first quarter of 2010 is more than that in the same period of last year, which reached 1,200," Sartono of the Cilacap district health service, said here on Thursday.

The worst affected sub district is Karangpucung with around 2,200 cases.

Most of the patients, which have recovered, live in plantation areas.

Cilacap District also has recorded 106 patients of dengue fever in the first quarter of 2010, a significant decrease from 402 cases in the same period in 2009.
