Russian is language of interethnic communication in Kazakhstan -
ASTANA, July 5 (Itar-Tass) -- Kazakhstan has legislatively guaranteed equal rights to all people living in the country, thus preserving interethnic peace at the time of reforms after regaining independence, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
"It was necessary to make a legislative provision in the Constitution
that Kazakhstan is home to all whop live in it. We did not harbour a
grudge against history as some had done or look for hard times when
someone had offended us," he said in an interview with Itar-Tass.
Nazarbayev noted that in addition to the constitutional guarantees of
equal rights for all people in the country, a provision was adopted to
exclude language discrimination.
He said the Russian language in Kazakhstan was "a language of
interethnic communication that is used in governmental institutions along
with the Kazakh language".
