Russia's Naval Board to meet July 5 to discuss security, personnel
ST. PETERSBURG, July 5 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian government's
Maritime Board will meet in St. Petersburg on Saturday, July 5, to discuss security and personnel issues.
The meeting to be chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov
will be timed to coincide with Sea and River Fleet Workers' Day. Officials
from the Transport Ministry, the Federal Agency for Sea and River
Transport, the Navy, the St. Petersburg administration, lawmakers and the
heads of ports will attend.
There are four matters on the meeting agenda. Transport Minister Igor
Levitin is expected to report on measures designed to encourage maritime
institute and school graduates to work in the Russian fleet.
Officials from the Transport Ministry and the St. Petersburg
administration will speak on the state of and prospects for port
operations in the Northwest of Russia.
Navy Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky will assess
national security at sea.
The last matter on the agenda concerns preparations for celebrations
marking the 200th anniversary of Russia's oldest transport educational
institution -- St. Petersburg State University of Water Communications in
2009.
