WHIRLWIND BLOWS AWAY SPORTS STADIUM'S ROOF IN RIAU

Pekanbaru, Riau Islands, April 10 (ANTARA) - A whirlwind hit Indragiri Hilir (Inhil) District and blew away a roof of the Beringin sports stadium.

"The roof over the stadium's middle tribune was lifted up by the whirlwind until it collapsed," M Nasir, head of the Inhil public works office, said here on Saturday.

The strong wind occurred on Friday (April 9) at around 4 pm local time.

A number of chairs of the 3,000-seat stadium were also damaged by the whirlwind.

The disaster caused material losses estimated at about Rp500 million to the stadium which was built in 1990.
