TWO MALAYSIANS CARRYING METHAMPHETAMINE DETAINED AT JAKARTA AIRPORT
Jakarta, April 10 (ANTARA) - Customs officers at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta international airport on Thursday (April 8) detained two Malaysians who were trying to smuggle in three kilograms of Methamphetamine, a source said.
"The two Malaysians arrived in Indonesia by a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong," spokesperson of the Customs and Excise Office, Evy Suhartantyo, said here on Friday.
She said the two suspects, named Wong Chai Hock (25) and Ong Beng Giap (27), were arrested after customs officers found metamphetamine packets strapped around their torsos.
The customs officers eventually handed the case over to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) for further processing.
Previously, on Monday (April 5), Batam customs officers arrested FC (41), a housewife, who was trying to smuggle metamphetamine worth Rp7 billion from Malaysia into Batam.
"The suspect tried to smuggle in 3,504 grams of metamphetamine," an officer of the Batam customs and excise office, Heru Setioko, said.
Heru explained FC who had arrived in Batam on Monday at 8.30 a.m. aboard a ship from Stulang Laut, Johor Baru, was carrying the metamphetamine in her travel bag.
"An officer at the x-ray checkpoint suspected something wrong inside the woman`s travel bag. When a check was done on the contents of the bag, the officer found five plastic packs containing white crystal powder," he said.
Heru added the Batam customs and excise office would hand over the case to the Riau Islands police.
