CENTRAL BANK OFFICIALS QUESTIONED OVER BANK CENTURY CASE

Jakarta, April 9 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators here Friday questioned Bank Indonesia's Deputy Governor Mulyaman D.Hadad over the Bank Century bailout case.

Mulyaman who was questioned for ten hours since 10.00 am local time told reporters that the KPK investigators just asked him about the central bank's meetings that he had ever attended
"I was just asked about the meetings that I ever attended," he said without further elaboration.

On the same day, KPK also summoned Heru Kristiana, another central bank official.

Unlike Hadad, Kristiana refused to give a press statement.

In connection with this case, KPK had previously questioned such high ranking BI officials as Budi Mulya, Budi Rochadi, Budi Armanto, Halim Alamsyah, Pahla Santosa, and Ahmad Fuad.

Last March, the House of Representatives' plenary session of the Bank Century bailout scandal concluded that the bailout policy had covered up irregularities, violations of banking regulations and criminal laws, instances of corruption and money laundering.

The House's final conclusion was supported by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Golkar Party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), the Great Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra), and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura).

Vice President Boediono, a former Bank Indonesia (BI) governor, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani were among those named by several party factions in the House's Bank Century Inquiry Committee as responsible for the Bank Century scandal.

The central government's decision to rescue failed Bank Century with a total of Rp6.7 trillion in bailout funds had also triggered protests from various elements in the society.
