BANGLADESHI MARRYING INDONESIAN WOMAN DEPORTED
Madiun, E Java, April 10 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian immigration authorities in Madiun, East Java, had deported a Bangladeshi Joy Mesiran for illegal stay in Indonesia.
The 27-year-old Joy Mesiran had lived with his Indonesian wife in Plunturan village, Pulung sub-district, Ponorogo regency for 12 years, Head of the Madiun Immigration Office Ramli HS said here Friday.
"Mesiran lived with his wife, Yulyani, that he married when she worked in Singapore. The couple had two children," he said.
Ramli HS said his people knew about the Bangladeshi man's whereabouts from local residents but they became confused with the fact that he managed to secure Indonesian legal papers.
The immigration authorities who questioned him found that he was a Bangladeshi citizen but local residents supposed that he was an Indonesian citizen due to the Indonesian documents he had.
Among the Indonesian documents that he had were a family certificate, the citizen's card, driving license, and general election card, Ramli HS said.
But he failed to show the immigration authorities the Indonesian citizenship documents.
Joy Mesiran was quoted as saying that he had a lawyer handle his Indonesian citizenship processing by paying him Rp50 million.
With the citizen card and other important documents that he received from his lawyer, he supposed that he had truly become an Indonesian citizen, Mesiran told the immigration authorities.
With the absence of the legal Indonesian immigration documents, Mesiran could not stay in Indonesia. He was then sent to the immigration detention house in Surabaya prior to his deportation.
Ramli HS said such documents as marriage certificate, family certificate, citizen card, driving license and election card, were confiscated because they were all received illegally by his lawyer.
Before Joy Mesiran, the Madiun immigration authorities had also deported another seven foreigners for illegally staying with their Indonesian wives.
Among the deportees were Taiwanese, Singaporean, Sudanese, and Thai, he said.
