PERTAMINA CAPABLE OF RAISING OIL PRODUCTION BY 15,000 BPD
Jakarta, April 10 (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina has been positively assessed as capable of increasing its oil production by around 15,000 barrels per day from currently 186,600 bpd until the end of 2010, a minister said.
"Pertamina's oil production can be raised by exploiting old wells and exploring new fields," State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said here on Friday.
He said Pertamina had been intensively trying to expand its oil fields marked by the company's capital expenditures that reached Rp40 trillion in 2010.
"A hike of 12,000 bpd has already been achieved so it has merely to be increased to 15,000 bpd," he said.
So, oil lifting in 2010 may reach one million barrels per day, including around 19,000 barrels per day from private producers such as Chevron, Shell, Medco, Codeco and ConocoPhipips.
The minister's expert staff, Eko Putro, meanwhile said Pertamina still had the potential to increase its oil production as some of its exploration activities had not yet been turned into exploitatin activities.
"Pertamina actually can conduct both exploration and exploitation at a lower cost," he said.
He said through equity participation Pertamina could speed up its field expansion.
"Pertamina must soon acquire oil fields at home as well as abroad," he said.
