PRESIDENT EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES OVER POLISH COUNTERPART`S DEATH
Jakarta, April 10 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has conveyed deep condolences to the people and government of Poland on Saturday over the death of President Lech Kaczynski in a plane crash during a trip to Russia.
Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said when contacted by ANTARA said, "the President has expressed deep condolences over the death of the Polish president and asked Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and the Indonesian representative office in Warsaw to convey them."
Julian said the President wished to convey directly the condolences to the people and government of Poland but until now the government had not yet been able to contact the Polish government in view of the mourning situation in that country following the tragedy.
He however said the government would continue seeking official contact with the Polish government to express its sympathy.
President Lech Kaczynski's death in plane crash in Russia on Saturday was officially confirmed.
Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported at least 86 people on board the plane including President Lech Kaczynski were killed in the accident.
