RI, CHINA URGED TO RENEGOTIATE TANGGUH GAS PRICE
Jakarta, April 11 (ANTARA) - Oil and gas observer Pri Agung Rakhmanto urged the Indonesian government to renegotiate the price of the Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) price which had been agreed between the two countries.
"It is not impossible for the government to renegotiate the price. It can do that during the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao planned later this month. The price both nations have agreed is low," Rakhmanto said here on Sunday.
Rakhmanto, who is director of ReforMiner, said that the government should be able to maximally utilize the Chinese prime minister's visit to renegotiate the price.
He said that China was now intensifying its efforts to find energy supplies to generate its economy which has been growing well over the pat several years.
"China is now in need of energy. The government should take this opportunity to offer a review for the Tangguh gas price," he said.
Besides Tangguh, Indonesia could also make use of the Chinese leader's visit to obtain investment and oil exploration commitment
from China, especially commitment for explorations in the country's eastern regions.
It was known that the eastern regions of Indonesia keep big oil reserves and the government was seeking investors to tap the potentials.
