G8 leaders expected to note close nuclear cooperation important

TOYAKO (Japan), July 6 (Itar-Tass) -- The G8 leaders, who will meet on the Japanese island of Hokkaido on July 7, are expected to note in a final document that close cooperation of all countries in the nuclear power industry is quite important, some sources on the sidelines of the upcoming G8 summit said on Sunday.
High on the agenda of the G8 summit are problems of world economy and the energy sector in view of the ongoing oil price growth.
In this connection, in their common statement the G8 leaders will
place an emphasis on necessary assistance to the development of
alternative energy sources, as well as the nuclear power industry.
Meanwhile, the summiteers will focus attention on the importance of
observing three conditions by all countries. These conditions are to
observe the nuclear non-proliferation regime, ensure a reliable operation of nuclear facilities and to take into account the global security problems.
The document will particularly stress the need for a tougher control over the technical condition of nuclear power plants and other nuclear power facilities and the strict observance of the commitments, which rule out the operation of these facilities for military purposes.
The G8 leaders also intend to appeal to the leaders of China and
India, who will join the G8 summit in an enlarged format, to assist in the development of the nuclear power industry in their countries. The supporters of this approach believe this measure will allow hoping for more moderate oil consumption in rapidly developing China and India.
