NEW DELHI, April 16 (Itar-Tass) -- India and China intend to expand
and deepen cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest. An agreement to
this effect was reached at a bilateral meeting of Indian Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh and Chinese President Hu Jintao held within the framework
of a summit of the BRIC group in the Brazilian capital, the Indian Foreign
Ministry reported.
According to the ministry, the two countries' leaders pointed to the
necessity of closer interaction in such international issues as the fight
with terrorism and global climate warming, as well as on the Doha round of
talks under the WTO aegis. In particular, Manmohan Singh and Hu Jintao
agreed to increase mutual investments and ease an access of products to
the two countries' markets.
A considerable progress of the two countries' trade and economic
interaction, as the ministry said, has been reached of late. Today China
is one of the leading partners of India in this sphere.
The two countries' border problem regarding the Indian state
Arunachal-Pradesh, the territory of which is considered in China to be
controversial, was also in the focus of the talks. As the ministry noted,
India and China continue working on the solution of this issue at the
level of special representatives of the two countries.
During the meeting, the Indian prime minister presented deep
condolences to Hu Jintao in connection with the death of 700 people as a
result of the earthquake in China's north-west.
