BRASILIA, April 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Signatories to the cooperation
agreement between government financial development and export support
institutions of the BRIC (the acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China)
states are to outline their would-be projects within a year, CEO of Russia'
s Vnesheconombank Vladimir Dmitriyev said on Friday.
"We and other banks of the association that was formed today are
looking into possible construction of power facilities in BRIC countries,"
he said adding "we have a lot to do to specify concrete projects."
Among the projects the four countries' banks are ready to tackle are
projects in the areas of power generation, aircraft-building, hi-tech
equipment and products, all backed by development institutions.
Asked about sums the signatories to the agreement are ready to
allocate, Dmitriyev said: "For instance, were are currently considering
supplies of helicopters, including civic ones, to Latin America, and to
Brazil in particular. The deal is worth approximately 100 million U.S.
dollars."
"(Investments in) power facilities may reach as much as several
billion U.S. dollars," he said, adding the summit tackled issues of
alternative and renewable power sources as well.
"That means the entire program set by leaders of our states as a basis
of economic cooperation could be implemented, to a larger extent, with the
assistance of development institutions," Dmitriyev stressed.
He noted however no special-purpose fund was planned to be set up. "We
are not talking about any funds. The implementation of concrete projects
requires no such funds. If a project is of bilateral, trilateral or
four-lateral interest, deals will be structured within such project and
based on the interest or potential of this or that partner, its
participation format will be fixed," he explained.
