GOVT TO SOCIALIZE NEW RULING OF ASIA PACIFIC INFRASTRUCTURE CONFERENCE
Jakarta, April 15 (ANTARA) - The Asia and Pacific Ministerial Conference on Government-Private Sector Cooperation in Building Infrastructure 2010 is a good opportunity for the Indonesian government to socialize the latest regulations on infrastructure development involving private businesses.
Coordinating Minister for Economic affairs, Hatta Radjasa at the opening of the conference in Hall D1 of the Jakarta Fair Ground in Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday, said that the opportunity must also be used to present planned infrastructure projects to be offered to private businesses and various projects which are really ready to enter a tender.
"The purpose of the conference is to realize the building of infrastructure projects in a better way through the development of public private partnership in the Asia and Pacific region, including Indonesia," he said.
The participants of the conference are representatives from more than 15 countries in the Asia Pacific region involving experts in the government and private sector and practicians in infrastructure.
The conference is also aimed at realizing commitments to accelerate development in infrastructure.
The latest conference was held in Seoul, South Korea in 2007, which produced a Seoul Declaration and recommendation on Asia Pacific cooperation in infrastructure development involving the government and private businesses.
The declaration will be followed up by the Jakarta Declaration produced by the two-day conference in Jakarta on April 15 and 16, 2010 which will deal with the details of the cooperation.
In the meantime, executive secretary of UNESCAP Noeleen Heyzer in his address said that the involvement of private businesses in infrastructure development is not only aimed at providing the fundings, but also for better efficiency in development.
Noeleen said that several obstacles facing the cooperation between the government and private sector in infrastructure development in the Asia and Pacific region include the lack of information and understanding on the part of government officials on the forms of the cooperation.
Therefore, he said, it is necessary to have a training program and intensive dialog between the to sides to speed up the cooperation and infrastructure development.
