"MBAH PRIOK" HEIRS HAVE DIALOG WITH PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO

Jakarta, April 16 (ANTARA) - The heirs of respected Muslim scholar Habib Hasan bin Muhammnad Al Hadad, known as Mbah Priok, had a dialog with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday.

Habib Ali and Habib Salim, the heirs of Mbah Priok who spread Islam in Jakarta in the 18th century, had an informal meeting with the head of state in the company of Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi and cleric Habib Munzier Al Musawa.

They met with the president following Wednesday's bloody violence in Tanjung Priok port area where thousands of public order officers marched to a graveyard complex where the tomb of Mbah Priok is located.

Wednesday's violence claimed three lives and injured hundreds.

"I have a serious concern about the incident. It should not have been prevented if there was good coordination between the authorities and the people," President Yudhoyono said.

The head of state then asked that mediation process that had been started could be continued in order to reach the best possible solution to the problem.

The dialog between the president and the heirs of Mbah Priok proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

In a press conference on the Tanjung Priok cemetery riots held at the Presidential Office here on Wednesday night, the President said the cemetery's status remained unchanged, and a solution would be sought by mediation involving all concerned.

The President pointed out that the chaos and violence in Tanjung Priok could have been prevented if the security authorities were willing to study the social situation prevailing in the area.

The Head of State also ordered a comprehensive investigation to prevent a repetition in the future.

He also told the Jakarta Governor and his men to hold a meeting with the relevant sides in seeking the best solution.
The Jakarta city administration was also told to give the clearest clarification to the general public about what will be done with the cemetery complex.
