GOVERNOR: SAIL BANDA ADVANTAGEOUS FOR MALUKU PEOPLE
Ambon, Maluku, April 17 (ANTARA) - The international marine event Sail Banda 2010 will be of great advantage to the people of Maluku, Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu said here on Friday night.
"This international marine event will give an immense contribution to various social aspects of the people of Maluku and Indonesia in general," Ralahalu said on the sidelines of the launching of Sail Banda by Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad.
According to Governor Ralahalu, the international marine will be a stepping stone in accelerating the pace of social and economic development in the province.
"The acceleration of development in Maluku is laid down in the regional midterm development plan 2011-2013 to build a prosperous, harmonious, religious, and self-reliant province," Governor Ralahalu said.
He said domestic and foreign tourists from various countries, as well as the participants of Sail Banda 2010 would contribute to a short term economic advantage for the people in the province.
While the long term advantage of the international marine event, according to the governor, was the promotion of the potential natural resources and tourism sector in Maluku to investors from various countries.
"A successful Sail Banda would convince the international community that the once communal-war-torn province is now perfectly safe and peaceful for both domestic and foreign tourists," Ralahalu said.
Meanwhile, Fadel Muhammad who is concurrently Sail Banda national committee chairman said the international marine event would be accompanied by Surya Baskara Jaya health service operation in various islands in the province.
Fadel said Surya Baskara Jaya health service operation would be conducted by the Navy hospital ship KRI Dr Suharso and other such ships from Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the Navy floating hospital USNS Mercy T-AH-19 of the United States.
