Patriarch Kirill to conclude Ural trip in Chelyabinsk.

CHELYABINSK, April 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and
All Russia will conclude his trip to Ural in Chelyabinsk.
The Russian Orthodox Church head on Sunday will visit the St. Simeon
cathedral, where thousands of parishioners will wait for him, the
governor's press service said.
A large plasma screen is installed at the square near the cathedral
for all to see the meeting that will be broadcast live.
On the concluding day of the trip, April 19, the patriarch will lead
the ceremony to consecrate the St. Georgy church built in honour of the
St. Georgy icon brought by a clergyman from the Palestinian city of Lydda
to the Ural region in 2002. The church is located on one of the highest
places in Chelyabinsk.
The construction began in 1997, but was suspended two years later
because of financial problems. The work resumed in 2003 when funds for the
constrcution were donated by the personnel of the Chelyabinsk
metallurgical plant of the Mechel company. The plant administration
together with parishioners helped complete the construction.
The church is 46 metres high. Its length is almost 42 metres, and the
width is over 23 metres. It has space for 500 people.
Parishioners believe the consecration before the 65th Great Victory
anniversary is symbolic. The church is built at Marshal Georgy Zhukov
Street. The marshal's saint patron was Georgy the Victorious.
The patriarch will conclude his visit to Ural on April 19 with signing
of an agreement on cooperation between the Ural Federal District and the
Russian Orthodox Church.
