INDONESIA EXPANDING EXPORTS TO MIDDLE EAST

Gorontalo, Indonesia, April 18 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is expanding its fishery exports to a number of countries in the Middle East this year, Director General for Fishery Business and Investment Victor Nikijulu said.

"Countries in the Middle East are gaining positive economic growth amid the economic down turns in the advanced or importer countries. This prompts us to turn to our export expansion to the Middle East," the director general said here on Sunday.

He said that at present the Middle East was becoming the main center of economic growth in the northern tip of the African continent.

The director general said that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries was taking strategic steps to turn the Middle East into an Indonesian basis for fishery processing industries.

"Our products, for example, are given cooking spices or flavor which have been adjusted to the tastes of the Middle East," he said.

With a market expansion like this, he said, Indonesia is expected to meet the tastes of the Middle East easily.

He said that Indonesia's success in diversifying its products to the Middle East was marked by its exports of fish products which were ready to receive flavors or pre-cooked fish and canned fish.
