PRESIDENT OPENS NATIONAL COORDINATING MEETING
Tampak Siring, Bali, April 19 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono opened a national coordinating meeting at Tampak Siring Palace here on Monday morning.
The meeting which is to last until Wednesday, April 21, 2010, is attended by all cabinet ministers, governors, provincial legislative councils (DPRD) chairmen, state enterprises (BUMN) leaders, and state institution officials.
It will focus on four things that have to be done to improve the people's welfare over the next five years.
The four things will concern Indonesia's economic development over the next five years, an evaluation of pro-people programs, law enforcement and justice for the people, and efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
After the president opened the meeting, it will be followed by a plenary session on economic development, chaired by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa.
Minister/Chairman of National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Armida Alisjahbana said here on Sunday that the main result of the national coordinating meeting would formed as a presidential instruction.
When opening a national congress of the Association of All Indonesia Local Legislative Assemblies (ADPSI) at the State Palace in Jakarta last Friday, President Yudhoyono said he wanted to make national development effort a success, especially in the regions.
The head of state then asked DPRD leaders in the provinces to make sure that all governors and their staff members seriously implement their general administration duties and development programs in their regions.
"Please make sure that governors as proxies of the president are serious and perform their work well in order to achieve our development objectives," he said.
Meanwhile, presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha told the newsmen here on Sunday evening that the Tampak Siring national coordinating meeting would be developed in a bid to improve the quality of the planning and implementation of government programs.
