Ukraine president to get acquainted with An-158 airliner.
MOSCOW, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - The Antonov aircraft design bureau has
devised a new modification of regional airliner -- the An-158.
An official at the leasing company Ilyushin FInance Co (IFK) has told
Itar-Tass, "A ceremony marking the first roll out of an experimental
specimen of this new-generation airliner is to be held on Tuesday".
"This event is the result of fruitful and concerted work by the
enterprises of Russia, Ukraine, and another 15 countries. The ceremony
marking the event will be attended by President Viktor Yanukovich of
Ukraine, the management of the Antonov state-run enterprise, executives of
major Russian and foreign air companies--potential purchasers of the new
airliner -- and directors of Russian enterprises that produce components,"
the IFK official pointed out.
The new airliner, developed by the Antonov design bureau with the use
of the newest digital technologies, is a modification of the An-148
regional airliner that accounted itself well in Russia and many other
countries. In comparison with its predecessor -- the An-148-- the new
airliner has a stretched fuselage that makes it possible to carry up to 99
passengers to distances of 2,500-3,100 km (The An-148 carries up to 75
passengers).
At present, the production of the An-148 has been mastered in Russia
at a Voronezh-based aircraft factory. The IFK, which has formed an order
book for over 100 airliners, is the main supplier of An-148 inside Russia
and abroad.
The newly-devised An-158 airliner has been made consistent to the
utmost with the airliners of the An-148 airliner family, including the
airframe and airliner systems, a power plant, the cockpit, the system of
technical servicing and repairs, the operation documentation, the crew
training system, and production technology.
About 70 percent of components for the An-148 and An-158 are made by
Russian enterprises. The certification of the airliner has been completed.
Commercial sales of the An-158 are to begin in the first quarter of 2011.
The leasing company has compiled a book of orders for confirmed and
tentative agreements for the delivery of twenty An-158 airliners to
Russian and foreign customers.
.Int'l conf in Tomsk to examine prospects for fundamental sci.
TOMSK, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - The 7th International conference of
students and young scientists on the theme of "Prospects for the
Development of Fundamental Sciences" opens at the Tomsk Polytechnical
University (TPU) on Tuesday.
An official at the forum's organizing committee has told Itar-Tass
that the conferences is to be attended by about 300 up-and-coming young
scientists from Russia, France, Italy and other countries. They will
discuss the topical problems of fundamental science in five subject panels
-- physics, chemistry, mathematics, technology, and professional knowledge
a foreign language.
"Discussions will also deal with the applied areas of science, such
as, in particular, plasma technologies in the building industry,
nanolithography, and alternative sources of energy," the TPU official said.
The conference will continue for three days. Those present at the
opening of each scientific session will be addressed by eminent scientists
who will describe the problems of and prospects for the development of
science in the 21st century.
The conference is held under the auspices of the Russian Foundation
for Fundamental Research. The programme committee of the conference
comprises the best fundamental-science researchers from Russia and West
European countries.
The TPU is one of the laureates of an all-Russia innovation
programmes' competition held under the national project Education.
Russia's first Center for the training of professional elite in the field
of information systems and technologies has been functioning at the TPU
since 2007. A Center of Innovations of the Microsoft Company operates at
the TPU Cybernetics Center. The budget of TPU innovation programmes
amounts to 1,000 million roubles.
.Seasonal catch of Alaska pollack amounts to 800,000 t.
VLADIVOSTOK, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - Fishery workers in the Sea of
Okhotsk on Tuesday completed the winter-and-spring season of Alaska
pollack catching. The fish catch over the season amounted to almost
800,000 tonnes.
Fishery operations involved over 300 trawlers and other boats, which
simultaneously engaged in catching herring, the catch of which was about
20,000 tonnes, the press service of the Okhotsk territorial department of
the Rosrybolovstvo (Federal Service for Fishery) reported from Magadan.
The entire fleet of fishing boats involved in Alaska pollack fishery
operations has left the fishing areas and is returning to their bases in
the Primorsky (maritime) Territory, to Sakhalin Island, Kamchatka
Peninsula, Khabarovsk Territory, and Magadan Region.
Preparations have been launched Tuesday for squid catching operations
off the South Kuril Islands. Large schools of squid arrive at the area in
May. Fishermen will resume operations to catch Alaska pollack -- which
accounts for the bulk of fish catch in the Far East -- in the Bering Sea
in autumn.
The year 1988 was notable for a record-high catch of fish -- 4,965,000
tonnes -- over all the years of fisheries in the Far East.
