.Medvedev, Sargsyan to discuss Karabakh, int'l agenda.
MOSCOW, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - The Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and
the international agenda will be discussed here on Tuesday by Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev and his Armenian counterpart Serge Sargsyan who
arrived in Moscow at Medvedev's invitation for a brief working visit.
A presidential administration source told Itar-Tass that the leaders
of the two countries would hold talks in a one-on-one format to consider a
number of matters of current importance concerning Russo-Armenian allied
partnership.
"Much attention at the meeting will be devoted to matters that are on
the international and regional agendas. Russia and Armenia have
established an effective foreign-political coordination both in a
bilateral format and within the scope of common integrational
associations, such as, primarily, the Collective Security Treaty
Organization," the source pointed out. He said Russia takes a positive
view of the process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations, expecting
that the establishment of goodneighbourly contacts between Armenia and
Turkey will objectively contribute to normalizing the situation in the
region, the source added.
Neither will Medvedev and Sargsyan, traditionally, bypass the
Nagorno-Karabakh issue. "The Russian side, taking into consideration its
status of Co-Chairman of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security
and Cooperation in Europe, goes ahead with active mediatory efforts due to
which, in many respects, a certain headway has been made in coordinating
the main principles for a settlement of the conflict. Russia intends to
continue to render necessary assistance to Yerevan and Baku in the search
for mutually acceptable solutions and is ready to support an option that
would suit all the sides involved for a way out of the conflict, and, if a
compromise accord is achieved, to act as guarantor of the settlement (of
the conflict)," the source said.
The two presidents will also discuss Russia-Armenia economic
cooperation, in which interaction in the field of energy remains the chief
one.
"Russian companies fully ensure on a stable basis Armenia's
requirements for the supply of natural gas and nuclear fuel. The
implementation of large-scale joint projects in the gas industry and
nuclear power engineering," the source emphasized.
The energy, banking, telecommunications, mining-and-metallurgical and
building sectors are the main branches in which Russian capital is
invested. A state credit to the tune of $500 million was granted to
Armenia at the peak of global economic downturn in June 2009, and the
rendering of Russian humanitarian aid to the population of Armenia is
currently continued.
