Situation in Kyrgyzstan dangerous for all neighbour countries.
20/4 Tass 317
MOSCOW, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - Uzbek President Islam Karimov is
positive that the current developments in Kyrgyzstan are dangerous for all
the countries, which border on it.
Following a meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev in the Kremlin, he
addressed the Russian press, which, according to his information, writes
that he came to Moscow in connection with the current situation, in order
to seek Russia's support. "One could put it this way, but I suggest that
you take into consideration the fact that the agreement on my visit to
Moscow was reached during the visit of the Russian foreign minister to
Tashkent," he reminded. "The thing is that we should discuss not today's
problems, but ways of ensuring stable peace and stability in Kyrgyzstan."
"Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as all countries bordering on
Kyrgyzstan are unanimous in their opinion of the situation: we would not
like the developments in Kyrgyzstan to acquire a permanent character,"
Karimov said. "The 2005 precedent (the overthrow of President Askar Akayev
as a result of the so-called 'tulip revolution') created illusions, and
the repetition of those developments five years after shows that their
consequences could be rather serious," Karimov continued.
"Some evaluations look surprising. One should not think that the whole
region is living through the same developments as Kyrgyzstan. People of
many nationalities live in our region. One should not speak about our
region in such a categorical and off-hand manner. This is a wrong
approach, based on a shortage of information. One should not judge about
the whole region on the basis on what is going on in one of its
countries," Karimov stressed.
He cited as an example several articles published by the Komsomolskaya
Pravda. "I assure you that we in Uzbekistan are not happy about what is
going on in Kyrgyzstan. Come to our regions bordering on Kyrgyzstan, and
you will see it for yourselves," Karimov told journalists.
