TOKYO, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama
is satisfied with the results of a meeting with Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev, which was held on the sidelines of the nuclear security summit
in Washington, Itar-Tass learnt at the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
According to the ministry, the Japanese cabinet head said this at a
meeting on Tuesday with the Russian president's representative in the
Russian Far East Viktor Ivashov, now on a visit to Tokyo.
Hatoyama noted that they had fruitfully discussed economic and
political questions of bilateral relations at the meeting with the Russian
president.
The Japanese premier said that he understands the importance of
economic modernisation of the Russian Far East, which is "the gate" of
Russia to the Asia-Pacific region. In this connection, he requested the
president to improve conditions for the operation of Japanese business in
Russia.
Earlier in the day, Ivashov held a meeting with members of the
Japanese business community in Tokyo.
