Maliki lauds UAE decision to waive debts

Abu Dhabi, July 7, 2008 (WAM) - Visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al
Maliki praised yesterday the UAE decision to write off its debts accumulated to Iraq. Speaking at an audience with members of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) and UAE investors and businessmen, the Iraqi prime minister hailed stances adopted by the UAE leadership towards his country.

''The UAE initiative, which highlights the ties between the two brotherly
countries and their peoples, will contribute to boosting development efforts
in Iraq,'' Al Maliki said.

Explaining the huge, rich investment opportunities available in all sectors
in Iraq, Al Maliki affirmed his government determination to provide all
required facilities and assistance to UAE businessmen wishing to invest in
Iraq. He stressed that Iraq is capable of protecting foreign capital. ''We
want you to take the lead in the investment process in Iraq,'' he told the
gathering of business and investors. Iraqi ministers of industry and trade
also addressed the meeting.
