Tourist project on Kymgansan Mountains going bust at Seoul's fault
.
22/4 Tass 161
PYONGYANG, April 22 (Itar-Tass) - The joint tourist project (together
with South Korea) in the area of picturesque Kymgansan Mountains, located
in North Korea, "is going bust".
In the opinion of the leading party newspaper of the people's republic
Rodong Sinmun, responsibility for this rests with the Seoul "puppet
forces, seeking to aggravate relations between the North and the South".
The refusal of South Korean authorities to resume tourist trips to the
Kymgansan, the newspaper stresses, "is in full contradiction to efforts,
aimed at national reconciliation and unification of the homeland".
Earlier, a representative of the North Korean sightseeing agency said
that back on March 4, North Korea stated its intention to resume tourist
trips for South Korean citizens to the Keson areas and the Kymgansans from
March 1 and April 1, respectively. North Korea took an obligation to
provide South Korean tourists with all conveniences and guaranteed their
security.
However, Seoul, the representative continued, "violating provisions of
joint declarations, took the road of confrontation and started raising
obstacles for resuming tourist trips which turned into a symbol of
inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation".
According to the representative, as a result of a long delay in
tourist trips, North Korea "suffered huge financial losses which cannot be
covered even by confiscation of South Korean property in the Kymgansan
area.
