POLICE : NO FIRE AT JW MARRIOT HOTEL IN MEDAN
Medan, N Sumatra, April 22 (ANTARA) - Medan city police chief Senior Commissioner Imam Margono said the smoke that came out from several floors at JW Marriot Hotel on Thursday was not from a fire.
"It is not a fire because no fire is found," Imam Margono said.
He said that after being traced, it was known that the smoke came from the third floor.
Because it was much it spread to many rooms up to the 18th floor of the hotel, he said.
But after police traced it along with hotel employees and firefighters they found it was not from a fire.
For the time being, he said the police concluded that it came from a short-circuit in the third floor.
He said the police would further investigate it to assure the cause of the incident that had made hotel employees and occupants flee for safety.
Imam said noone was killed in the incident, earlier believed to come from a fire.
However, one of the hotel employees has been taken to a hospital for inhaling too much smoke.
The smoke emerged at around 11 am from the third floor of the hotel located on Jalan Putri Hijau and Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Medan, North Sumatra.
