Jakarta, April 22 (ANTARA) - Indonesia welcomes the runner up of the International Sustainable (Energy, Engineering & Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) held in Houston, Texas, USA, from April 14 to 19, 2010.
After a series of international achievements of the various states, the students are now returning to Indonesia with 2 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, and the 2nd Honourable Mention from the International Olympiad (I-SWEEEP).
"I hope that the runner up can maintain its position and keep on improvising as the best and made the winning spirit as a habit without becoming arrogant," the Indonesian Science Project`s organizers Bambang Soedibyo said here Thursday.
Besides, all these participants must also take full advantage of what they have achieved and hopefully their innovative inventions would be applicable to national industries, the former Education Minister said.
To the International Science Olympiad, Indonesia sent three teams consisting of Healtha Padmanusa and Nabila binti Ahmad Anshori from SMA BBS UNIVERSE Semarang, Central Java, with their research entitled "Utilization of Compounds from Senduduk Plant (Melastoma Malabathricum) as Sensitizer In Dye sensitized Solar Cells) which won the Silver Medal.
Dhora Vasminingtya Reginaning Charysma and Nila Sutra from SMA 1 Ponorogo, East Java, with their research entitled Husk Supplement Concrete A New Alternative Concrete Which Is Strong, Light And Has A High Economic Value, won the Bronze.
And the Honorable Mention receiver Mutiah Humaira and Shinta Erdiana from KHARISMA BANGSA BBS High School in South Tanggerang, Banten ,who brought a study entitled Utilization of Organic Waste as Solid Fuel (Biobriquettes) and Liquid Smoke.
The three teams were the third Indonesian delegations to the international-level science Olympiad, where in the previous two years, Indonesia has sent a team to compete.
In the first year, the Indonesian team managed to get three Bronze medals and four Honorable Mentions, and in the second year, they managed to grab two Gold Medals and two Silver Medals.
The results in the Olympiad showed that the students do have to be genius, anyone can do it. It is the school`s capacity to recognize their students` early interests and talents and directing them for accomplishment.
This achievement is not reached suddenly, but the result of continuous efforts made by the school, through the learning process and the students as subjects while the school continues to encourage and facilitate students to learn and achieve progress.
