MINSK, April 23 (Itar-Tass) -- The toppled Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek
Bakiyev noted, he cannot say that the Russian security services are
involved in the dramatic events in Kyrgyzstan.
"I cannot say that the Russian security services are involved in these
events," he told a press conference in Minsk on Friday.
Meanwhile, he noted that the Russian leadership "was concerned that
Kyrgyzstan as a small country pursues its independent foreign policy."
Among the irritating factors was the U.S. military base Manas," he said.
According to him, the issue of the U.S. military base was permanently on
the agenda of the negotiations with the Russian leadership and the U.S.
administration.
"The Russian leadership was concerned over the U.S. military base in
Kyrgyzstan," Bakiyev noted. Bakiyev stated that he was seriously concerned
when the Russian leadership decided to introduce customs duties on fuel
and lubricant products for Kyrgyzstan that caused the price growth. "We
were in shock," Bakiyev remarked.
According to him, when the decision was taken to form the Customs
Union, Kyrgyzstan stated about its readiness to join it. Bakiyev also
stated that currently he considers it necessary to set up an international
committee that will investigate the events in Kyrgyzstan, as well as to
bring the UN peacekeeping forces in the country.
