INDONESIAN WARSHIP RESCUES TWO FISHERMEN

Manado, North Sulawesi, April 23 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian warship, KRI Sungai Gerong (SGG)- 906, rescued two local fishermen whose boat sank in the Sulawesi Sea on Thursday at 1.45 am local time.

The survivors were identified as Reksan, 25, and Karce, 36, residents of Matutuang village, Marore sub-district, North Sulawesi Province, the ship's captain Major Yani Sujani said.

Speaking to reporters here Friday, he said the two fishermen had been hospitalized at Wahyu Slamet public hospital in Bitung. However, Karce was still unconscious.

Quoting Reksan's explanation, Sujani said the ill-fated fishing boat sailed from Matutuang village on April 17 to Marore but at about 8.40 am on Thursday, it was hit by two-meter high waves, and capsized.

Reksan and Karce were dragged by the currents for five days before being found by the navy on Thursday, he said.
