MINSK, April 23 (Itar-Tass) -- Kurmanbek Bakiyev is not going to
return to Kyrgyzstan in the capacity of president. He has made a statement
at a press conference organized by the Belarusian State National press
centre. "I am not going to return to Kyrgyzstan as president," he said.
The toppled Kyrgyz president confirmed that during his stay in
southern Kyrgyzstan he really wrote a resignation statement. Alongside,
Bakiyev noted that in this document he wrote that he "is ready to leave
Kyrgyzstan and resign as president," but under certain conditions,
specifically, if his associates and relatives are not persecuted. "This
was promised to me," Bakiyev noted. "But now everything is visa versa," he
underlined. According to him, money is extorted from his associates and
relatives, and people are abducted. "Therefore, I do not recognize my
resignation, as the opposite side did not fulfil their obligations,"
Bakiyev pointed out.
Meanwhile, he believes there are some chances to get the situation in
the country back onto the legal track.
