AU Commission Chairman Ping taken to hospital in Hokkaido

TOYAKO, Japan, July 8 (Kyodo) - African Union Commission Chairman Jean Ping was taken to hospital after complaining of feeling unwell during an outreach session of the Group of Eight major nations' summit in Hokkaido on Monday afternoon, a senior JapaneseForeign Ministry official said.

Ping, who is from Gabon, was treated at a hospital in Sapporo and is not in a serious condition, according to a Japanese government source.

The official also said that Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who also attended the outreach session, has postponed his departure from Japan to Tuesday afternoon from Monday night due to fatigue.
