GOHELP GIVES Ј50,000 FOR CHILDREN AND CHARITY
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ In the wake of a disastrous winter in Mongolia, thousands of vulnerable children and their families will benefit from a new project funded by GoHelp, a UK-based charity that organizes the epic 10,000-mile Mongolia Charity Rally each year, said in a press release issued by Save the Children Mongolia Office.
By supporting this one-year project developed by Save the Children, GoHelp will provide generous assistance to both direct services to most disadvantaged children in Ulaanbaatar and raising awareness and capacity building of government officials and public in protecting children from abuse and violence, according to the release.
There are many working and street children, most of them from poor and migrant families. They often live in extremely poor conditions and are at constant risk of illness, injury from dangerous work, violence and sexually transmitted infections.
The project funded by GoHelp will provide direct services to street and marginalized children in Ulaanbaatar through Save the Children's drop-in centre for street children. This assistance is particularly relevant now that the situation for the children is made much worse by having lived through the extremely harsh and long winter conditions. Thousands of rural herder families are losing their livestock, their only source of income, which could contribute to the growing number of migrant and/or homeless families and working and street children.
It is for these reasons that the project funded by GoHelp will also raise public awareness on child protection with a focus on positive childrearing, and build the capacity of local professionals and agencies in protecting children. Furthermore it will enable Save the Children to advocate with the national and local government in Ulaanbaatar and Dornod for developing child protection policies.
“With the money raised, we hope to support the work of Save the Children in strengthening Mongolia's child protection system and build capacity at national and local levels to improve the access and quality of child protection services for poor and marginalized children”, said Fel Cruz, CEO, GoHelp, who is currently visiting Mongolia.
