Gazprom, Libya to create JV

MOSCOW, July 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Gazprom and Libya's National Oil Corporation have decided to set up a joint venture to modernise and build new oil processing capacities, Gazprom said on Wednesday after talks held in Libya by between the company's delegation led by CEO Alexei Miller.

"In the course of the visit, a meeting with Libya's National Oil Corporation Chairman Shukri Ghanem was held, and Alexei Miller met with Libyan Revolution leader Muammar al-Gaddafi who exchanged views on the development of mutually advantageous partnership between Gazprom andLibya," the company said in a press release on Wednesday.

"The parties agreed to begin substantive talks on the acquisition offree volumes of hydrocarbons in Libya," the document said.

"Global oil market tendencies were discussed during the talks. The parties agreed that the price of hydrocarbons will grow, with the price of gas coming close to global oil prices [per tonne of conventional fuel]," the press release said." The parties "welcomed the implementation of the Memorandum ofCooperation signed between the companies".

They also discussed " further steps to boost cooperation in the oil and gas sector, including the creation of a joint venture for oil and gas exploration and development projects and the construction of energyfacilities in Libya.

The two sides agreed to set up a joint venture for the modernisationand construction of new oil processing capacities.
