Skydiver, supposedly Russian, dies in California.
LOS ANGELES, May 3 (Itar-Tass) - A skydiver, supposedly a Russian
national, has died at the Moreno Valley medical center in California of
heavy wounds he received Friday while taking part in a group freefall over
the southern part of the state, local media said Saturday quoting an
executive of the organization supervising competitions and training the
Perris Valley skydive resort.
About 30 fans of the extreme sport were making jumps from a plane
Friday, said the executive, Dan Brodski-Chenfield.
After the unfolding of parachutes, two persons turned up two close to
each other and the parachute canopies touched each other, he said.
One of the parachutes remained intact while another folded up when the
diver had descended to 15 meters above the ground.
The Russian skydiver was considered to be an experienced athlete and
he was escorted by his wife to the medical center where he died.
Brodski-Chenfield recalled that attention and vigilance are crucial
for skydivers and the Russian sportsman had apparently lost sight of
several other divers.
