Control helps stabilize economic situation, says Mujawar

SANA'A, July 10 (Saba) - Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Mujawar affirmed on Wednesday the official oversight's role and effectiveness in helping stabilize economic situations, ensure the provision of goodsand services and protect protects the interests of consumers.

At the opening of a symposium on mechanisms to activate the official role for promoting the national economy and protecting protects the interests of consume, Mujawar said that the official control includes the verification of competition conditions, the prevention of monopoly and excessive prices and the investigation of goods and services identical to the legal quality andvalidity standards.

Mujawar pointed out also during the two-day symposium organized in Sana'a by Industry and Trade Ministry, the need to monitorlawbreakers and apply laws and regulations in force.

He affirmed the important of the roles of local councils and civil society organizations to activate the control power in the capitalSana'a and all provinces of the country.

In his speech, Mujawar also reviewed the most important treatments to promote and activate the role of the local councils in all cities of Yemen, including the formation of a Food Council which reflects the partnership between the government and the private sector as well as the formation of inspection teams to monitor markets andcatch infringements and refer them to judgment.

YA Water sector strategy should be updated: al-Arhabi says SANA'A, July 09 (Saba) - Deputy Premier, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul Karim al-Arhabi asserted Wednesdaythe significance of updating water sector strategy.

During his speech in the opening of a workshop concerning updating the National Strategy, the Investment Program for Water Sector and the third joint annual evaluation, al-Arhabi said that the upgradingshould meet the development plans and the millennium goals.

The purpose of holding the workshop is to reduce the gap between the strategy's investment program and the water sector's expenditure funds in addition to setting up a timetable action plan programcould be easily overseen and evaluated, the minister said.

He added that updating the strategy would contribute to setting up appropriate procedures, identifying the institutional accountabilities, building capacities, developing a realistic investment program to attract all the financial resources availableto support the sector by donors and the government.

Moreover, the updating would help in selecting the suitable technical options to provide water and sanitation services in urban and rural areas, raise the irrigation competence and rationalize the water resources depletion, noting that building capacities would enable all sectors to carry out their investment programs as well asimplementing the institutional reform action plan.

The minister accentuated the importance of coordination between the Ministries of Water and Agriculture, valuing the role played by the joint ministerial committee formed from the concerned ministries and donors to coordinate duties between donors and executive bodies, set up general policies and to overcome obstacles to enable water sectordoing its responsibilities perfectly.

Minister of Water and Environment Abdul Rahman al-Eryani said that the workshop is a result of a long time joint work exerted by several committees concerned in water sector for improving the national strategy and the investment program besides discussing thefew-coming year supportive program for water sector.

For his part, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansur al-Hawshabi said that officials in the water concerned sector are the responsible ones to implement duties of rationalizing the water resources depletion, encouraging the expansion of modern irrigationnet, building Water barriers and expansion the rain-fed agriculture.

The agriculture ministry is working currently, in coordination with Water ministry, on setting up an integral program for rationalizingwater usages.
