Medvedev to present City of Mil Glory certificates to 5 cities.
MOSCOW, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev is to present
the certificates of Cities of Military Glory to another five cities at a
ceremony in the Kremlin on Tuesday. The leaders the cities, war veterans,
and young people have been invited to the ceremony.
The five are Volokolamsk outside Moscow, Bryansk, regional center,
Nalchik, the administrative center of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic,
Vyborg, the second-populous city in Leningrad Region, and Kalach
on-the-Don, a city in Volgograd Region.
The President of the Russian Federation signed respective Decrees on
March 25. There are now 27 Cities of Military Glory in Russia.
.Seven policemen contused in Ingushetia.
NAZRAN, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - In Ingushetia, seven policemen have been
contused after unidentified gunners fired from an under-barrel grenade
launcher on a traffic police checkpoint in the municipal district of
Nasyr-Kortov of the city of Nazran late on Monday night, a source at the
SKP (Investigation Committee to the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian
Federation) investigation department for the Republic of Ingushetia has
told Itar-Tass.
In connection with the fact of firing, criminal proceedings have been
instituted under the provision of articles listing "an attempt on the life
of personnel of law enforcement agencies" and "unlawful bearing and
keeping of arms and ammunition".
The traffic police checkpoint, located in the area of the Ekazhev
section of the Kavkaz (Caucasus) Road, was fired upon at 23:15, Moscow
time, on Monday. Several shots were fired from a grenade launcher.

ST PETERSBURG, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - The St Petersburg-based Federal
Heart. Blood, and Endocrinology Center named after V. A. Almazov on
Tuesday begins to perform operations on the heart with the use of
cryotechnologies, for the first time in Russia, Professor Yevgeny
Shlyakhto, a cardiologist, Director of the Almazov Center, and
Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, has told
Itar-Tass.
Shlyakhto said he refers to such most widespread kind of cardiac
action disorder as fibrillation of atria. Tens of thousands of patients in
this city alone suffer from this kind of arrhythmia which is conducive to
a cerebral crisis and cardiac insufficiency, the cardiologist pointed out.
The medical effect is produced by means of "freezing" cardiac muscle
sections with a pathological electrical activity, Professor Shlyakhto
said. "Safety and low traumatic effect are the fundamental distinguishing
feature of this kind of action, which makes it possible to intervene in
young age and even in childhood in the event of emergence of the very
first symptoms of arrhythmia," Shlyakhto said.
This kind of treatment will become the alternative to years-long
taking of expensive anti-arrhythmic drugs, the Director of the Almazov
Center emphasized.
.RF compatriots in China seek to preserve historical heritage.
HARBIN, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - The study, search for and preservation of
Russian historical heritage constitute the main subject of discussion at
the Russian compatriots' fourth conference that opened here on Tuesday.
The conference has been organized by the Coordinating Council of
Compatriots in China and the Russian Club in Harbin under the auspices of
the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the People's Republic of China
(PRC).
Representatives of various public organizations, scientists,
historians, diplomats, as well as Russian clergymen from Beijing,
Shanghai, Harbin, Guangzhou, Urumqi, and Hong Kong are taking part in the
conference, the theme of which is "Russian Historical Heritage in China:
Problems of Study, Protection, and Popularization in the Light of the 65th
Anniversary of the Great Victory ".
