VLADIVOSTOK, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - Over 1,000 Russian tourists have used
the Sakaiminato-Donghai-Vladivostok ferry link since it was opened nine
months ago, Japanese Tottori Prefecture Governor Shinji Hirai said at a
meeting with Vladivostok Governor Igor Pushkaryov.
The governor said that apart from the development of humanitarian
contacts and an exchange of youth and other delegations, the ferry link
could be also used to deliver construction materials within the framework
of Vladivostok's preparations for the 150th anniversary and the APEC
summit of 2012.
Soon, the car manufacturer Sollers situated in Vladivostok will begin
the assembly of Japanese Isuzu trucks. Component parts for them can also
be delivered in Vladivostok on these ferries.
The ferry link connected Tottori and Primorye last year. Ferries
capable to carry 530 passengers, up to 70 vehicles and 130 containers
operate between Sakaiminato (Tottori Prefecture), Donghai (South Korea)
and Vladivostok. This line is used to bring fruit from Tottori to
Primorye. A trade centre of Japanese Tottori Prefecture was opened in
Vladivostok last February. It offers consultations on joint business,
services of qualified translators, assistance in establishing contacts at
the level of two countries' embassies. A festival of the Japanese
prefecture was held in Primorye cities one month ago.
This time the governor of Tottori visits Primorye as part of a major
delegation. The governors of seven Japanese prefectures will spend two
days in the Russian region. They will get acquainted with the construction
of facilities for the APEC summit, will also visit a trade port, meet with
students of Far Eastern State University. An agreement on friendly
relations and cooperation between Primorye and Tottori will be signed.
