China to grant over $10 mln to Turkmenistan.

ASHGABAT, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - China will extend a grant exceeding
$10.7 million to Turkmenistan.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov said "these funds will
be earmarked to the development of the social sector," local mass media
said following the Turkmen leader's visit to China on May 1-2.
"This grant is one more sign of China's sincere friendship and good
will," Berdymukhammedov said at the talks in Shanghai.
He noted that Turkmenistan has "a special attitude to China, which is
proved by the fact that China is the only country that was granted the
right to the development of Turkmenistan's onshore hydrocarbon fields."
Last year China extended a 4-billion-dollar subsidized loan to
Turkmenistan to develop the Yuzhny Iolotan gas field with the estimated
reserves of up to 14 trillion cubic meters.
Beijing considers this field a source to fill for the
Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline last December.
