Moscow mayor to present book on Kuril Islands
MOSCOW, July 10 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov will on Thursday present his new - eleventh - book. It's called "The KurilSyndrome".
A source at the Moscow mayor's office told Itar-Tass that the book isdevoted to the history of Russia's territorial dispute with Japan.
Luzhkov is not a beginner in this subject. In 1998, the Moscow mayor headed the Russian 21st Century Committee - a public organization set upto develop non-governmental ties with Japan.
In 2003 Luzhkov became the head of the Russian part of the Russian-Japanese Council of Sages created on the initiative of Russian andJapanese leaders.
The new book is meant for broad reading audiences. It contains a vast selection of facts on the history of the two countries, many rare maps andinteresting illustrations.
Luzhkov wrote "The Kuril Syndrome" in association with his adviser Igor Titov, who is an executive secretary of the Russian part of theCouncil of Sages.
Luzhkov's previous book - an essay "About Love" came to light in March2007.
