Jordanian FM to visit Moscow for talks with Lavrov.
MOSCOW, July 10 (Itar-Tass) - Jordanian Foreign Minister Salahedin al-Bashir will arrive in Moscow for a working visit on Thursday to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, preparations for a Middle East conference to be held in Moscow, the situation in Iraq as well asbilateral relations.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman Andrei Nesterenkosaid that the Middle East peace process would dominate talks on July 11.
The Russian diplomat said the sides would focus on increasing theworld community's role in efforts to stabilize the situation in Iraq.
"The sides are expected to discuss the situation in Lebanon in the context of implementing an agreement to end the crisis. The agreement was reached in Doha with assistance from the League of Arab States (LAS) and Qatar. Special attention will be paid to Iranian nuclear program," theRussian diplomat went on to say.
The Russian and Jordanian foreign ministers will exchange views on prospects of Russian-Jordanian relations and the implementation of agreements reached during a visit to Moscow of King Abdullah II of Jordan in February 2008 and his talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev inAstana on July 5, 2008.
Nesterenko said that in recent years new trends had appeared in Russian-Jordanian relations, including cooperation in nuclear energy. Thenumber of Russian tourists to Jordan has also increased.
Jordan's Ambassador to Russia Mr. A. al-Kurdi said, in turn, that the visit of the Jordanian foreign minister would deepen the two countries'interplay in politics, economy and culture.
He noted Russia's vital intermediary role in the Middle East settlement. Jordan supports Moscow's efforts to organize an internationalMiddle East conference, the Jordanian ambassador told Itar-Tass.
He added that Jordan would participate in any peace effort and that stability in the region couldn't be achieved without finding acomprehensive solution to the problem.
"We pin high hopes on Russia which actively participates in the peaceful settlement of the Middle East crisis. As a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council and a participant in the Middle East 'quartet',Russia is fairly respected by all the parties involved in the conflict.
The Jordanian ambassador to Russia said that the Russian and Jordanian foreign ministers would discuss how to improve bilateral relations and add a new impetus to them. "Amman has traditionally attached great importance to cooperation with Russia in energy, cultural and military spheres," theJordanian diplomat stressed.
He said that Jordanian Foreign Minister Salaheddin al-Bashir would also meet representatives of the Russian State Duma and the FederationCouncil.
