Primorye, Tottori prefecture sign agreement on friendly ties.

VLADIVOSTOK, May 5 (Itar-Tass) -- An agreement on friendly ties and
cooperation between the administration of the Primorye territory and Japan'
s Tottori prefecture was signed in Vladivostok on Wednesday. The document
envisages the development of cultural and economic ties and cooperation in
education, the territorial administration's press centre told Itar-Tass.
A similar document was signed recently with the Akita prefecture. The
territory's governor Sergei Darkin expressed the wish to sign similar
agreements with other Japanese prefectures and to hold the next annual
meeting of Russian and Japanese governors in Vladivostok.
Regarding cooperation of the Primorye territory with Japanese
prefectures, Darkin noted that Japanese businessmen now take part in the
construction of a windmill farm on the Russky Island; a contemporary
timber processing plant built on Japanese investments operates in the
north of the Primorye territory. Among possible joint projects the
governor mentioned the construction in the Primorye territory of a
fish-processing enterprise with the use of the most contemporary
technologies.
Darkin also supported the proposal of Japanese colleagues to expand
youth exchanges and expressed the territory's readiness to receive
delegations of Japanese youth on the basis of the All-Russian children's
center Okean where conditions for children's studies and vacationing have
been created.
The delegation of governors of the Japanese prefectures Tottori,
Akita, Hokkaido, Fukuoka, Yamagata, Gunma and Toyama arrived in
Vladivostok on Wednesday to get familiarized with the economy and public
life of the center of the Primorye territory. Within two days the guests
will inspect the sites of the construction of facilities for the APEC
summit, will visit the commercial port and will meet with students of Far
Eastern State University.
