Exercise of Pacific Fleet being held in Sea of Japan

VLADIVOSTOK, July 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Crews of missile carriers the Pacific Fleet (PF) drilled methods of guarding and defence in the unprotected road in the Sea of Japan with the use of deep-water handgrenades and jet bombs on Wednesday. Besides, an exercise of sweepers that ensured the passage of the missile carrier Varyag and the destroyer Bystry was held.

The exercise of the Pacific Fleet began in the Sea of Japan on July 8.

According to the exercise plan, striking groups consisting of the missile carrier Varyag and the destroyer Bystry, as well as crews of a squadron of torpedo boats are to detect and destroy the main forces of the simulated enemy and prevent a supposed landing of troops. Big antisubmarine ships, which are to secretly come up to our shores, will play their role andpatrol aircraft will prevent them from doing this.

During the exercise, about 20 different individual and group combat exercises are to be fulfilled. Ship crews will hold individual and groupfirings on ground, surface and air targets with the use of artillery of universal calibre.

Anti-sabotage actions of crews will be drilled, andmine-sweeping ships are to carry out different kinds of training sweeping.

Group firing of Varyag and Bystry at air targets with the use ofanti-aircraft missile complexes will be the culmination of this exercise.
