Zayed Foundation discusses cooperation with Sudanese delegation
Abu Dhabi, July 10, 2008 (WAM) - The Director General of Zayed Foundation, Salim Obaid Al-Dhahiri has held a meeting with visiting Sudanese delegation from the Ummul Fuqara Charity Organisation, led by the organisation's Executive Director, Abdul Aziz Khalid Ahmed Al Bashir.
They discussed cooperation between the two charity organisations.
Al Dhahiri reiterated the UAE's commitment to reach out to all people in distress, particularly in sister Arab and Muslim countries, in line with the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the personal follow up of the Chairman of the Board ofTrustees of Zayed Foundation, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
They reviewed the most significant achievements of the Zayed Foundation in the area of providing humanitarian assistance to the poor and needy insidethe UAE and abroad, particularly in poor countries.
The Zayed Foundation has also supported a large number of charity organisations worldwide, particularly in poor countries, including Sudan, where the foundation had contributed to the humanitarian programmes of a number of charity organisations, particularly in relief assistance during natural disasters that struck the country. These include the areasdevastated by floods and drought in recent years.
It has also assisted in various development projects in Sudan, including the country's health sector, where the foundation contributed immensely to the building of the Khartoum Dialysis Centre, the Yaqout Hospital, a rehabilitation centre for children with special needs and engaged in water-well drilling project dubbed "Yanabie Zayed" charity project, whichcovered ten African countries, including Sudan.
The Zayed Foundation has also supported education in Africa, including its support for higher education by building the faculty of engineering at the International African University, for whom its assistance has reached more than US$6 million. Al Dhahiri said his outfit will continue to stand by sister Arab countries and all people in distressed worldwide in accordancewith the legacies of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The head of the Sudanese delegation expressed profound gratitude to the UAE leadership and people for their continuous support to Sudan. He briefed Al-Dhahiri about his organisation's activities and projects and presented a number of humanitarian and charity projects to the Zayed Foundation to studyand provide the necessary support.
