Kyrgyzstan declares weapons amnesty.

BISHKEK, May 6 (Itar-Tass) - The Kyrgyz interim government has made a decision to pay monetary compensations for voluntarily surrendered arms seized during a recent uprising that toppled President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the acting chairman of the state National Security Service, Keneshbek Duishebayev, said on Thursday.

According to the official, during the uprising on April 6 and 7,
protesters seized a lot of weapons from law enforcement officers. "We have
decided to buy out these weapons," Duishebayev said. "The prices will be
published today or tomorrow," he said.
He said a large-scale operation to return the seized pistols,
sub-machine guns, grenades and other weapons was underway in the republic.
"A lot of weapons are being seized, but a lot are still in circulation,"
he admitted.
Alone staffers of the National Security Service were stripped of about
100 units of weapons during the unrest. Upon a decision of the interim
government, those who volunteer to surrender arms will be relieved of
criminal responsibility.
