Turkey, Russia postpone NPP deal until Medvedev's visit.
ANKARA, May 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Turkey and Russia decided after six-hour
talks on Thursday to postpone the signing of the final protocol on the
construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) and on lower gas prices until
the visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev next week.
Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz and Russian Deputy Prime Minister
Igor Sechin also cancelled a planned press conference and Yildiz explained
the parties want to finalize all agreements by Medvedev's visit on May
11-12.
Officials in the Russian delegation confirmed the work on the final
protocol, which was expected to be signed after the meeting of the
bilateral intergovernmental commission, will continue.
The commission for trade and economic cooperation discussed the
agreement on Russian construction of the first Turkish nuclear power plant
and decreased prices of Russian gas for Turkey. The Samsung-Ceyhan oil
pipeline project was also discussed in detail.
Russia wants to build four reactors at the new nuclear power plant in
the town of Akkuyu on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
Last August Prime Minister Vladimir Putin approved the draft
Russian-Turkish inter-governmental protocol for cooperation in the field
of peaceful use of nuclear energy and instructed Sechin to coordinate it
with the Turkish partners and to sign it on Russia's behalf.
The protocol stipulates that, as soon as the tender for the
construction of Akkuyu NPP is over, the parties should support the project
and ensure its effective implementation.

"The Tajik side provided information on the epidemiological situation
in the republic and requested to consider the possibility of lifting the
sanctions," the Tajik foreign ministry said on Thursday commenting on a
meeting of Foreign Minister Khamrokhon Zarifi with Russian Ambassador Yuri
Popov. It did not elaborate.

He will visit the Krasnye Barrikady (Red Barricades) shipyards which

In Moscow, besides VE-Day celebrations, Berdymukhamedov will also
