Vietnam not to recognize China's ban on fishing in disputable waters.

7/5 Tass 152

HANOI, May 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Vietnam has again confirmed its sovereign
rights over the disputable Spratly and Paracel Islands in the South China
Sea. "Vietnam has enough legal grounds that prove its indisputable
sovereignty over the Parcel and Spratly Islands," director of the
information and press department of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Nguyen
Phuong Nga said. The text of her speech was published in the local press
on Friday.
Nguen Phuong Nga made the statement in answer to China's ban on
fishing in a number of areas of water of the disputable islands as of May
16. Vietnam doesn't recognize this ban and expresses its flat discontent
with the given step. "Such actions are considered as a gross violation of
Vietnam's territorial integrity," the diplomat said.
The dispute between Hanoi and Beijing on the belonging of the Spratly
and Paracel Islands has been going on for many years already. At the same
time, apart from Vietnam and China, Taiwan, Brunei, Malaysia and the
Philippines also lay full or partial claims on these territories which,
according to experts, can have considerable reserves of oil and mineral
raw materials.
